General weapon system
Inventory system
The player can carry a maximum amount of weight along, limiting the total amount of ammo and weapons rather than having 1 version of each weapon and a certain amount of ammo space per weapon. This will give the player more freedom to work with weapons of their choice, but also forces to player to think better about the conflicts ahead to plan what weapons to use / take along.
Weapon extensions
Weapons will also have extensions like a flashlight, laser points, zooming scopes, grenade launcher etc. The possible extensions differ per weapon and some extensions use similar slots. Not all extensions can be used at the same time and carrying around extensions takes weight leaving less space for weapon and ammo.
Firing modes
Some weapons have multiple firing modes. The energy weapons can distribute their energy differently causing damage to different targets or a different spread.
