General description
Weapon used on auto-cannons. Auto-cannon base can hold way more ammunition than you. Auto-cannon can also be automatically reloaded via my ammo/supply pod idea (explained later). Does lots of damage in a concentrated beam.
Hardpoints
- Sight
Sight
- standard tracking sight - puts a nice little box around enemies when using the sight, 2x zoom only
- auto tracking sight - will actually aim a little bit, this is for the towers.
Firing modes
- solid beam - What auto-cannons use. Can't be used indefinitely because of overheating issues. Medium-low damage if use for short intervals. Medium-high damage if used for a few seconds (but near overheat)
- pulse beam - Charges up the beam for one good pulse. Medium-high damage. Takes a second or two to charge each beam.
- heat beam - Turns the beam into a low damage, non-overheating, invisible beam. Must be kept on enemy/object for a decent amount of time to do any damage, but doesn't alert enemies to your position. Perhaps used for setting off triggers (fuel tanks, etc.)?
Ammunition types
- high-yield battery - Only kind of ammunition. More of a battery. Gets used up fast via solid beam, medium by pulse beam, and slowly by heat beam.
- Autocannons can be powered by a powerline. If this is the case they have unlimited ammo, for as long as the powerline is intact. Maybe at some point the player can also use a powerline to face a certain situation where he needs to shoot a lot?
- Autocannons typicly have 2 beam rifles attached. This enables them to fire 1 solid beam permantly (the guns will alternate to make sure they won't overheat)
